How To Spend 4 Perfect Days In Vancouver

Gretel and I had a fabulous weekend in Vancouver with day trips to Victoria and Whistler. We got a really cheap flight from Dallas to Vancouver for just $215. It was just gorgeous. The weather was gift from heaven, everybody was very nice and we saw a lot nature.

Our trip didn’t start very well. As always we arrived at the airport at the last minute and didn’t make the check in for our luggage. We missed it by 3 minutes. The guy at the counter recommended to reschedule to a 4 hour later flight. Not with me, we just took or underwear, socks and other essential stuff and put it in my little rucksack. 4 days with one jeans and 2 sweatshirts will be ok. So we left without our luggage but got on the plane on time :) .

Our flight was pretty normal. After our arrival we took a Taxi to our hotel in Downtown Vancouver. Our Hotel , Quality Inn was very nice, affordable, very friendly staff, clean, great location and an ultra comfortable bed. What more do you want?

First we took a little ferry to Granville Island. A little market with bars, restaurants and fresh fish, fruits, vegetables and other delicious food from all over the world.

Stuffed with some fruits we continued our walk to Downtown through Yaletown, passing the ice hockey stadium and Chinatown. Then we went through Stanley Park and along the coast. After exploring Vancouver we had great dinner at Milestone. Very nice restaurant, young people and good food.

The next morning started pretty early. We drove with our rental car and a ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island, the Capital of British Columbia. A really nice city, with old houses and the second oldest Chinatown in North America.

Our next day trip was Whistler, the host of the Winter Olympic Games 2010. A really nice little town, with cool restaurants, bars and great ski area.

Unfortunately my knee is still messed up, so I had to pass on that. :( . Instead we tried out Ziptrek. That was so much fun, a nice thrill for adventurous people :) . After our ride on ropes over trees we went to the Coca Cola Tube Park. That was fun too, but I really wished I could have gone skiing, damn knee! At the end of a long day we had dinner at the nice Rim Rock Cafe and for dessert a Whistler Lager at Citta Bistro, small and cosy.

If somebody likes to watch skiing, the world cup will be there this weekend, we just missed it by a week.

We spend our last day at Capilano. A big suspension bridge in the mid of beautiful nature.

We saw quite a lot in 4 days and it was breath taking. I really recommend a trip to Vancouver, rent a car and drive around. There are so many things to do, you probably need 2 weeks or more to see everything. For Gretel and me it was an unforgettable long weekend. Even though I didn’t meet John Chow ;)
